2025: Adaptation rules.

How might you navigate the accelerating pace of change?

I've many thoughts, and this is one that's bubbled to the surface as I step into 2025.

Like many others, I struggle at times with defences such as playing the comparison game, procrastination, self doubt, using distractions, imposter syndrome, etc.

I too am aware that one of the building blocks in a vertical development journey is that of "Expert". That is building expertise and using that to become an "Achiever". And these elements remain foundational (like rings of a tree) no matter how much you grow.

This potentially creates a problem in today's accelerating world: how can you find time, space, focus, and resources to build sufficient mastery in order to live a good life?

I'm increasingly drawn to the idea of adaptation. That while mastery matters, so does being adaptive. Being lighter, more willing to play in the spaces where the risk allows it.

And perhaps expanding our sense of Mastery? Can we get better at being adaptive, at specialising in being human generalists?

Maybe adaptation and mastery could be part of the same whole.

Can we slow down and be intentional about the things we want to "master" and about "how" we do so (through adaptive leadership and learning)?

If you've any thoughts, I'd love to hear. And, happy 2025!
